UNICEF’s nutrition programme helps keep children alive and healthy in the East Region.
After a cooking demonstration children receive a nutritious meal at the Gado Badzere site, in Garoua-Boulai, in the east of Cameroon.
The East region is among the regions with a high rate of several forms of malnutrition (acute malnutrition, stunting, underweight, micronutrient deficiency).
This high prevalence of stunting among children under five is partly due to inappropriate infant and young child feeding practices, limited access to care, food insecurity and poor living conditions. precarious hygiene and sanitation.
With the financial support of the KFW, UNICEF is setting up a malnutrition care package whose objective is to improve the nutritional situation of vulnerable populations in the Eastern region, particularly those in the refugee camp of Gado Badzere.
The various components of the project are the management of severe acute malnutrition, the promotion of infant and young child nutrition (ANJE), awareness-raising on the use of enriched porridge and the fight against deficiencies in micronutrients in adolescent girls.
