UNICEF donates Personal Protective Equipment to the Ministry of Health

On Tuesday May 19, 2020 Jacques Boyer, UNICEF Representative handed over to the Ministry of Health, a large batch of medical supplies and equipment valued nearly 50 million CFA francs, to help ensure the safety of Health care Workers. Frontline heroes fighting against coronavirus, work tirelessly to save lives. The equipment comprised of Surgical Gowns, Surgical masks protective suits, Protective Coveralls.

“We want to ensure all health personnel who are at the forefront are protected so that they can be able to carry out their duties in serenity and safe lives,” Jacques Boyer said.

Receiving the donations on behalf of the government, the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Public Health, Alim Hayatou thanked UNICEF for the gesture a well as praised the ongoing cooperation that exists between them as well as other partners in the fight against the pandemic. He said the donation is timely given that efforts have been doubled in the past weeks to ensure health workers are protected as the virus keeps propagating.

In addition to this contribution, UNICEF’s action is focusing on, procuring supplies and rushing personal protective equipment (PPE) to health facilities that are straining to treat the sick and contain COVID-19; preventative actions in communities to protect the health of children and their parents and caregivers. delivering hygiene and handwashing supplies to communities, health centers and childcare facilities, creating solutions, like educational radio broadcasts, to keep children safe, connected and learning. Noting that domestic violence often increases during stressful periods of home isolation, UNICEF is also providing positive parenting guidance to help those caring for children to manage such stress, while encouraging children to ask questions and express their concerns.
