Every child in school must be able to complete the school cycle
In the Eastern region of Cameroon more and more children are being enrolled in school but during the year, the level of school dropout is still significant.
In support of the Government, UNICEF is supporting the population in implementing a community mechanism to monitor school enrollment and attendance of pupil throughout the school year.
For this purpose, UNICEF Representative Jacques Boyer visited the populations of Tongo Gandima in Ngoura district. The community organized a school vigilance committee in charge of conducting regular mass sensitization in the village, making home visits to identify households in which children are out of school and encouraging parents to send their children to school, sensitize parents at community meetings and at all major gatherings, fight against the phenomenon of child labor, identify children from 04 to 05 years to encourage enrollment in preschool.
During this visit, the UNICEF Representative was able to appreciate the efforts made by this community and encouraged its members to build on this momentum so that every child in this part of the country would fully enjoy their right to an education, but also to quality educational monitoring.
