Djaïli Amadou Amal commits with UNICEF as National Ambassador.
Yaounde, 5th March 2021 — Djaïli Amadou Amal has just been appointed UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to Cameroon. She joins the list of well-known and highly respected figures committed to working alongside UNICEF to improve the situation of the most vulnerable and to make the voice of every child heard.
It is a wonderful coincidence as her appointment comes amid the Women’s Week, celebrated this year under the theme: “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world”. This theme celebrates the incredible efforts of women and girls around the world to shape a more equitable future and recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Djaïli is one of those women capable of shaping the future. Through her history and her struggles, she represents an example of courage and resilience. The winner of “Prix Goncourt des lycéens 2020” will support UNICEF in its efforts to reimagine a world where every child in general and every girl is safe and free to exercise all their rights.
“UNICEF strongly believes in the role played by celebrities in order to promote the rights of the child. Through her novels, her words and her actions, Djaïli Amadou Amal has proven that she fully supports children’s rights. We are convinced that her commitment will have a concrete and direct impact on our interventions in favor of vulnerable children’’. Said Jacques Boyer, UNICEF Representative in Cameroon.
In the coming days, the new UNICEF Ambassador will carry out field visits in order to meet with the realities and needs of children, to see the interventions of UNICEF and to exchange with the communities.
“I am very honored to bear the title of UNICEF Ambassador, especially as the mission of UNICEF is part of the things that are dear to me and which now nourish my convictions and commitments as a writer and activist. I hope I can make a significant contribution to advocate for children, especially young girls.” Said the new UNICEF Ambassador.
